Accreditation Board

Accredited Board for Continuing& Oral Dental Education (ACODE) accredits the Continuing Oral & Dental Education of all dental professionals. Accreditation is a process of quality assurance that determines whether Oral & Dental education meets established standards for function, structure and performance.

ACODE focuses on settling and maintaining accreditation requirement that are relevant to the dental professionals’ lifelong learning needs for continuous professional development and responsive to changes in the oral health care environment.

Standards for accreditation for continuing dental education are developed by Accredited Continuing Dental Education Programme's (ACODE) Governing board and are implemented by Accredited Continuing Dental Education Programme's (ACODE) Regulatory board .

The purpose of ACODE is to set expectations for Accredited Continuing Oral &Dental Education Governing Board and Accredited Continuing Oral &Dental Education Regulatory Board to ensure that CODE is independent, based on valid content and contributes to Oral health care improvement for patients and communities.

ACODE Governing Board’smission is identification, development and promotion of standard for quality Continuing Oral & Dental education which can be used by dental professionals in their maintenance of competence and incorporation of new knowledge to improve quality of Oral health care for patients.

The Governing board provides a collaborative forum and a collective voice for the dental community to assess the quality of professional higher education programmes. It advances the knowledge, skills, and good practices of accreditors and communicates the value of accreditation as a means of enhancing educational quality.

Governing board develops accreditation standards, formulates accreditation programme and policies. Develops and approves procedures that are used in the accreditation process.

Governing board is responsible for accrediting dental education programmes. This assures the quality of education and training to promote continuous improvement of the programmes.

It also serves the Oral health care needs of the public through the development and administration of standards that foster continuous quality improvement of dental and related educational programmes.

Accreditation of an educational program signifies that the programme offered by the education provider has been found to meet accreditation standards, knowledge, skills and professional attributes necessary.

The accreditation standards specify the criteria which education and training programmes are assessed for accreditation.

Trust Rigorous Standards

Regulatory Board's mission is to serve the oral health care needs of the public through the implementation of standards that foster continuous quality improvement of dental and related educational programmes. The standards support the defined knowledge, competencies and professional attributes required for graduates to register as a dental practitioner.

It also advises the ACODE Governing Board about implementation issues relating to accreditation of education programmes, and other accreditation related matters.

Monitoring

As a part of the accreditation process implementation, ACODE, Regulatory Board requires an annual report for each accredited programme. Details of any significant changes, planned or unplanned, must be provided at that time. It is the responsibility of ACODE Governing Board to notify the ACODE Provider Regulatory Board of any planned significant changes before they are implemented.

ACODE Regulatory Board supervises and implements the set standards of accreditation by monitoring the Continuing Oral & Dental Education (CODE) provided by the following:-

  • IDA Branches;
  • Dental Colleges;
  • Dental Speciality Associations
  • Defence Section
  • AIMS – CDER

Guide for Accreditation of Continuing Oral & Dental Education

The Accredited Continuing Oral & Dental Education Programme (ACODE) have provided the following quick guide to successful accreditation for a conference or group learning activity.

  • Needs Assessment It is important to determine who is your target audience is and what their perceived or unperceived needs are. You will be asked to identify the sources of information you have used.
  • Creating Learning Objectives: Learning objectives should be based on the identified needs. The objectives should be developed for the overall conference and for individual presentations or workshops and should state what the participants will know or achieve as a result of attending the activity. If possible, the objectives should be printed on the conference brochure. Alternatively, they should be made available during the conference.   • Educational Delivery Method: It is important to think about the educational delivery options in order to engage participants actively and facilitate adult learning. It is likewise important to ensure that at least 25% of the education time is devoted to interactive learning opportunities.
  • Evaluations: It is essential to plan evaluations in order to obtain feedback from the participants. It is important to tie the evaluations to the learning objectives in order to explore whether the objectives were indeed met and whether the course content was relevant to the participants’ learning needs.
  • Ethical Standards for Continuing Professional Education: Group CODE activities must meet the ACODE guidelines governing the relationship between dental profession and the pharmaceutical industry, and the CODE guidelines.
  • No drug or product advertisements may appear on or with any of the written materials, preliminary or final programmes, brochures or advanced notifications of the event. Generic names should be used rather than trade names on all presentations and written materials.

    The sponsoring organization should not have control over the selection of the topic, content and speakers, and must ensure the scientific validity, objectivity and completeness of the content.

    There must be a mechanism for disclosing financial affiliations of faculty, moderators and members of the planning committee. All sources of commercial funds must be identified and funds are to be received in the form of an unrestricted educational grant, payable to the sponsoring organization.
